Holy week in Spain

Although celebrated in many parts of Spain, Andalusia is undoubtedly the region where the celebration of Holy Week is most impressive. Holy Week in Seville, Granada, Córdoba or Malaga is one of the most important religious events of the year. During a whole week, parades, masses, celebrations... are organized and retrace the history of Christ's Way of the Cross. By day and by night, the atmosphere in the streets is unique and is punctuated by the processions of the city's various brotherhoods. The Andalusians are preparing this celebration many months in advance and their enthusiasm is felt throughout the region. Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Sunday. The 2010 Holy Week will therefore take place from March 28 to April 4, 2010. If you are travelling or planning to travel to Andalusia at this time of year, it is important to book your flight and hotel well in advance as this celebration attracts thousands of Spanish and foreigners each year. Also know that prices tend to increase at this time of year but living in this unique atmosphere and sharing the fervour of the Andalusians is priceless.
